Astra Superior Stainless Double Edge Razor Blades

This stainless steel blade is coated in platinum for a smooth glide. The double edge fits all standard DE safety razors. This is a popular choice for many wet shavers, not aggressive as a Feather, but still has nice sharp edge: durable and long-lasting. They are individually wrapped to assure safety, sterility, and shelf life. Get a pack of 5 to try them out or get the economical 100 pack, if you know you love them.

  • Some of the most popular and well-respected de blades on the market.
  • Fits all standard double edge safety razors
  • Excellent for Parker, Merkur, Gem, Gillette and all other brands of standard Safety Razors
  • To avoid excessive wear on the blade leading to dulling, make sure to rinse the blade after each use – never wipe it.
  • Recommended for beginners as they are not overly aggressive and are forgiving
  • 5 Blades per Tuck

Great quality blade. Very sharp. Pretty aggressive. Not the very best out there, but certainly not bad.

I’m fairly new to shaving with DE safety razor (53yrs old and still learning how to shave…sad). I’m thinking every piece of gear I buy should be the ‘best’. I started with a German Mekur loaded with Japanese Feathers and had a good first impression, being more careful with the shaving process (hot water with a good shaving cream), but still had the occasional cut that bled into my work schedule. The cuts and bleeding got worse the less care I put into my morning routine. So I try the Astras SS thinking I needed a less aggressive blade… the shave was acceptable (still careless during the morning rush), and the cuts weren’t as severe.
My routine changed when I started working out and ended my workout in the gym’s steam-room. Shaving after the steam-room made me realize that it’s all about the prep. The Astras SS felt like it was wiping away my beard (medium to thick…average beard) and no cuts. I get 4 good shaves from each blade, but it’s because my facial hair was steam prepped (using Dr.Bonner peppermint hemp soap to lather). I won’t shave at home anymore…and the Astras SS is my new favorite razor.

I tried these on a whim to see how they’d compare with Astra and Gillette Platinum’s, and Gillette Nacet Stainless. I put these up there with the Nacet as my favorite, followed by the Gillette P, then Astra P.
Smooth and sharp when shaving with a Gillette Slim, Super Speed and Feather Popular. Of course, how one shaves is going to color one’s views on any part of the shave experience, so take all this with a grain of salt.

Update, after using these a while I’m not impressed with their holding their edge. I can only get two good shaves from these, while I usually get three with Nacet. These blades are notably thinner than anything I’ve ever encountered. My razors are Feather Popular, Gillette’s SuperSpeed, Fat Boy and Slim. I love them all, from the most mild to the most aggressive, so to speak.

I’m new to DE shaving but really enjoying it with my Edwin Jagger DE89, badger brush and variety of shaving creams and products. Even with the initial outlay to get started I’m kicking myself for the years of poor electric shaves and wasted money on gunk in a can and multiblade rip offs. I’m working my way through a sample pack (from amazon) plus some other blades up to feathers. Having tried most now I have found that astra SS have been my benchmark to compare the others to. So far, for me, the stainless versions of blades seem to suit me better than chromes etc and I think I prefer these slightly over the sharks but rank perhaps just below the gillette 7 o’clock yellows. Throwing 100 of these blades into my rotation for just under 8 quid is a bargain but like other reviews say its worth sampling a smaller order first before going for bulk. These astras have been fine for 4 shaves and I’m sure might go further but not worth risking a sub standard shave so I tend to replace after 3 shaves.

Since beginning traditional wet shaving about eight months ago I have tried a number of blades and these are what I now regard as my go to blades.

This is a good pack of blades which comes well packaged and is great value for money.

Blades are smooth and sharp. This means care is required but gives a great shave. Personally I find these as smooth and sharp as the Astra Platinums but I tend not to use blades until unfit for use.
Well packaged – cardboard is better for the environment.
Consistent manufacturing means blades are always good

Nothing major – don’t like the glue on the inner sleeve but not a big deal either.

Fairly recently returned to the joys (and frustrations) of double edged safety razor shaving, and with a load of new ‘kit’ including the lovely EJ 89 razor, my mission was on to find the right blade for me, and these are it!

An easy shave, smooth and close enough, and is quite forgiving of my lack of skill with the razor.

Have tried loads of different blades, all of which get much better reviews all over the web, but the key is ‘personal’, everyone’s face is a little different, and these Astra stainless blades are the ones for me! Moral of the story, don’t read too many reviews of blades (they’re just other people’s experiences), you’ve got to get loads of little packs of different blades and find the right one for you.

These blades are one of the best for the money IMHO.They are very sharp, very smooth and I get about 5 shaves per blade.I have also used the platinum coated ones (amongst others)and find these to be a touch sharper and just as smooth….and cheaper!!!
They really suit my Gillette G1000 but are just at home in my EJ89 so a pretty good all rounder.
Quality control appears good with these-I havnt had a bad one yet.In this respect they knock spots off the Derbys which ,to me,are very hit and miss!! I find the Derbys also tug a lot but these Astra’s just glide through the stubble without any effort.
Give them a try-I think you will be impressed too!!
